Our Mission

Our Mission:

We believe that all children can learn, and that every school is capable of helping each child reach his or her fullest potential. Our teachers and tutors feel responsible in helping to facilitate this growth through their best efforts. Tutors on Wheels wants to be an active partner in strengthening community schools by helping their population to receive the extra academic help they need in order to achieve proficiency and beyond in subjects of need. Therefore, we seek to create strategic partnerships with community schools to help each student reach his or her individual goals – and to help these schools achieve their educational vision as well.

Our Philosophy:

To paraphrase the African proverb, we believe that it takes a community to help our children move towards achieving their academic goals. Community schools have become a critically important resource in this effort. They need 21st century learning tools to help students succeed in an electronically interconnected world, where time and space have become all but obsolete in determining relationships among individuals, communities and nations. In addition to the technological aides we offer, Tutors on Wheels also fervently believes in the difference that one on one tutoring makes. An individualized approach to teaching has always been seen as the most effective in helping students to correct various academic struggles. Come in and find out how and why one on one tutoring works best.

Our Objectives:

Tutors on Wheels strives to:

  • Provide high-quality academic tutoring services
  • Integrate technology and supplemental educational materials into learning
  • Create engaged and motivated learners
  • Develop study skills and learning techniques
  • Involve parents and family members in improving each child's academic performance
  • Help students become college and career-ready by adding our tutoring expertise to the daily work of classroom teachers and school administrators

Our Model for Success:

We create customized tutoring plans to serve, as accurately as possible, the needs of each child.

  1. We collect and share data to provide indicators of each child's academic performance. We also collect teacher evaluations from parents to help us continuously improve our programs and services.
  1.  We believe that tutoring is a collaborative process that requires community involvement, and we bring parents, siblings and school personnel into the process.
  1. We seek to work with all students and their families to gather further insight into the strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles of each individual.
  1. We partner with research-based organizations to use innovative teaching tools to help accommodate 21st century learners.
